On Staying Human
Those that know me personally know that I truly never tire when it comes to talking about feelings. It’s even hard to know where to start this post because there is just so much I could say on emotions.
The longing and fear that underlie anger.
The sense of panic that accompanies grief.
That tears that fall from joy.
These complex, simultaneous emotions are what make humans human. What a gift it is to live so deeply - from the joy of laughter that heals to the desire for love that can cause so much pain. It’s all a part of being you. No right or wrong to it.
We’re living in an age of increasing disconnection from ourselves and each other. We doomscroll to check out from the day’s stress and ask AI to figure out our relationship problems instead of attempting an imperfect conversation. There’s no shame in taking space from our feelings or using technology as tools. We don’t have to sit with the hard stuff constantly. The risk is that relying on these tactics in the long run separates us from our humanity little by little instead of building resilience through vulnerability. By messing up and learning. By hearing what our feelings have to say.
Vulnerability…the scariest yet most connecting experience.
This blog serves as accountability to myself to continue practicing vulnerability in the hopes of connecting with others. Accountability to stay human and remind others to do the same. It’s a commitment to take a few minutes every now and then to sit with myself and process the busy world that exists within and around me…to reflect on my time, have imperfect thoughts, and share them anyway. I’m dedicated to maintaining a blog with no AI-generated content or even AI editing. Straight from my pen and paper to this page.
My ADHD brain loves “Chat” for all the help it can provide - coming up with a quick recipe, creating spreadsheet formulas, or helping me find the internet link I need without spending 20 minutes searching. But the more I interact with technology, the more I miss connecting with real humanity…flaws and all.
If you’ve made it through my imperfect writing this far, thanks for taking the time to slow down and practice being human with me.
Let’s stay rooted in the connection of our humanity.
